"The cooperation will be discussed further across ministries and institutions. We will determine the specifics as discussions progress," PCO spokesperson Adita Irawati said on Monday.
The cooperation was recently initiated during a meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba in Bogor, West Java, last weekend.
The discussions are still in the early stages, requiring further coordination between relevant institutions and ministries to ensure the cooperation materializes effectively.
Indonesia has just launched the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program in 26 provinces, supported by at least 190 special kitchens. Managed by the National Nutrition Agency, these kitchens are responsible for preparing and distributing free meals to schoolchildren, toddlers, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers.
Japan, with extensive experience in implementing similar programs, has expressed its intention to support Indonesia's MBG program.
"Japan will organize cooperation efforts, including training for the school lunch provision program, training experts, and assisting in improving the fisheries and agriculture sectors based on Japan's experience," Prime Minister Ishiba said.
He made the remarks during a joint statement with President Prabowo at the Bogor Presidential Palace on Saturday.
Ishiba reaffirmed Japan's commitment to supporting the MBG program to help Prabowo's government combat childhood malnutrition.
In response, President Prabowo expressed his appreciation for Japan's willingness to participate in the program.
"They are also interested in supporting the nutritious meals program, leveraging their 80 years of experience in this area. Their assistance may include training and other forms of support," he stated.
Additionally, both nations agreed to collaborate in sectors including industrialization, energy, maritime affairs, and defense.
