Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Defense discussed plans to enhance the country’s main defense system during a leadership meeting on Thursday.

"The main defense system is one of our top priorities," said Frega Ferdinand Wenas Inkiriwang, the ministry’s Head of Defense Information Bureau.

He noted that bolstering the country’s main defense systems is crucial for improving military capabilities. This aligns with President Prabowo Subianto's directive to the ministry to achieve an ideal military posture for safeguarding the country's sovereignty.

To support this goal, Inkiriwang emphasized that the main weapon system should be suitable for use by the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI), meeting criteria such as combat durability, functionality, ease of maintenance, and clear operational procedures.

During the meeting, discussions also covered specific types of weapons required by the army for effective military operations.

Additionally, the meeting addressed the enhancement of sea defense capabilities.

"As an archipelagic nation, we want to enhance our naval forces. This includes upgrading our warships, frigates, submarines, and surveillance capabilities, as well as our missile and ammunition systems," Inkiriwang explained.

In terms of air defense, the ministry plans to strengthen the air force’s arsenal, which includes fighter jets and transport aircraft.

"We also discussed cybersecurity issues," he added.

Inkiriwang expressed confidence that strengthening the main defense system will enable Indonesia to effectively counter potential attacks.

"If our defensive posture is weak, it will be challenging for us to protect the nation's sovereignty and security," he stressed.
