Jakarta (ANTARA) - Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita has said that Indonesia’s export performance is still primarily supported by the manufacturing industry.

In 2024, the exports of the non-oil and gas processing industry were recorded at US$196.54 billion, accounting for 74.25 percent of the total national export value of US$264.70 billion.

“This means that our manufacturing industry is consistently the highest contributor to Indonesia’s export performance,” he pointed out here on Thursday.

“Moreover, amidst uncertain global economic and political conditions, national industry players remain aggressive in penetrating export markets to various countries,” Kartasasmita added.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the export value of the non-oil and gas processing industry in 2024 increased by 5.33 percent compared to the previous year (yoy).

With such a positive performance, the manufacturing industry also played a role in adding to the trade balance surplus of US$31.04 billion for the period.

The government, according to the minister, is determined to create a conducive business climate so that industry players are more confident in running their businesses.

In addition, regulations that support business are also expected to attract more investment and make Indonesia a production center and base for exports.

“Increasing exports is the key to building our economy. In this case, downstreaming plays a major role in achieving this target by increasing the added value of domestic raw materials,” the minister pointed out.

“Moreover, the government is focusing on increasing added value domestically for a number of raw material commodities,” he added.

Kartasasmita said that the Ministry of Industry will continue to run the downstreaming program, which is focused on upstream industry groups, such as the upstream agro industry, the basic metal and non-metallic mining industry, as well as the oil and gas and coal industry.
