Aid distribution commenced immediately through the nearest social warehouse.
"Since Saturday, our teams have been tirelessly working to provide essential relief," stated Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf on Sunday. "We have dispatched aid packages from multiple logistics warehouses to reach those in need."
The initial wave of assistance included 400 ready-to-eat meals, 1,000 children's food packages, 50 mattresses, five family tents, two water purifiers, 100 roll-up tents, 150 blankets, 50 children's clothing packages, and 50 essential family kits, amounting to 179 million rupiahs (around 10,000 US dollars) in aid.
Further support arrived from the ministry's logistics center in Bekasi, comprising 300 mattresses, 200 blankets, 200 family kits, 200 children's clothing packages, 800 ready-to-eat side dishes, 100 roll-up tents, and 200 additional ready-to-eat meals, with a total value of 401 million rupiahs (approximately 23,000 US dollars).
Minister Yusuf outlined the ministry's comprehensive flood response strategy by prioritizing a rapid assessment of the affected areas, swift evacuation of vulnerable residents to safe locations, and the timely distribution of essential aid," he explained.
Furthermore, close coordination with village officials and community outreach efforts were emphasized.
The minister urged the community to remain vigilant and prepared for potential future flooding events.
The floodwaters are currently receding, allowing some displaced residents to return to their homes and begin the arduous task of cleaning up the mud and debris.
Intense rainfall that began on January 17 significantly increased the water discharge of the Cipager River, leading to the breach of its embankment and subsequent widespread flooding.
The floodwaters inundated residential areas and public facilities, reaching depths of one to 1.5 meters in some locations. A total of 596 families across five sub-districts were affected, with 2,432 homes inundated.
The flooding displaced 90 individuals, who were sheltered at two evacuation centers: the Dawuan Village Hall (70 people) and the Lovina Dawuan Complex (20 people).
There have been no reported fatalities or injuries as a result of this flood.
