Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Fauzan, highlighted the important role of university student organizations in contributing to national development.

He made this statement during the closing of the National Coordination Meeting of the Muhammadiyah Student Association (IMM) in Bali on Saturday (January 18).

"Student organizations, like IMM, can serve as a bridge between the younger generation and various development programs in Indonesia," Fauzan stated in the ministry's press release here on Sunday.

Fauzan emphasized that students, as agents of change, need to be fully committed to national development across all areas, including education, social issues, and the economy.

He pointed out that the opportunities presented by participating in organizations should be optimally utilized, as history shows that many of the nation's leaders came with a strong organizational background.

"The opportunity to engage in organizations is important. Historical records indicates that most people in strategic positions have been active in organizations," he said.

Deputy Minister Fauzan also praised IMM for its national strategic policies that align with the country's development goals, such as in enhancing food security, improving human resource quality, empowering villages, and promoting a green economy.

The strategic policies include the National Movement for Planting Two Million Trees, the National Movement for Establishing 1,000 Thematic Villages, and the National Movement for 500 Al-Quran Education Centers (TPQ).

Moreover, there are National Movement for Strengthening Mental Health, the National Movement for Food-Pioneering Youth, and the National Research Movement.

Previously, Fauzan said that currently the government is focusing food and energy security, as well as overcoming unemployment and poverty issues.

He assessed that national development requires the active role of universities as they produce the human resources and research products that can contribute to the nation.
