Jakarta (ANTARA) - Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian appealed to the regional governments where inflation is still high to implement control measures.

He made the request while chairing the Regional Inflation Control Coordination Meeting in Jakarta on Monday.

He listed several provinces with high inflation, including Papua Pegunungan, Central Papua, West Papua, Bali, Aceh, North Sumatra, Riau Islands, South Kalimantan, Banten, and Southwest Papua.

"Though there is only one that is above the target of 3.5 percent, namely Papua Pegunungan, this must be paid attention to," he said in his statement.

At the district level, Jayawijaya, Mimika, South Sorong, Labuhanbatu, Meulaboh, Tanah Laut, Banggai, Berau, Sikka, and Indragiri Hilir have recorded high inflation.

Meanwhile, cities with the highest inflation include Gunungsitoli, Sibolga, Pematangsiantar, Lhokseumawe, Denpasar, Sukabumi, Padangsidimpuan, Dumai, Serang, and Bima.

Although not all districts and cities have recorded inflation above the national target, vigilance is still deemed necessary.

In this regard, regional governments have been urged to identify the cause of the high inflation, for example, whether it is due to supply shortage or disruption in the distribution of commodities.

The minister also asked regional governments to carry out a planting movement to increase commodity production centers in the country.

This is in view of the rise in prices of several commodities, such as red chilies and bird's eye chilies.

The same can be done for shallots, whose supply is still reliant on certain production centers such as Brebes district in Central Java.

"I think there are other regions that can produce them (shallots). They are contributors to inflation," he said.
