"Ahead of the new academic year, the student admission process must be prepared well. It must be better than the previous years," she stressed in a statement received here on Monday.
She expressed the hope that the new student admission scheme prepared by the government will help tackle the problems that recur ahead of each academic year.
According to Moerdijat, the problems that often arise during student admissions include an increasing number of parents changing their family card addresses so that their children can get into their desired school.
She said that with the school zoning system, the uneven distribution of public schools leads to many prospective students not getting enrolled in schools within their zoning radius.
Meanwhile, some schools experience a shortage of new students, she added.
This gives rise to dishonest practices, such as gaining admission to a school with a bribe.
The MPR deputy speaker encouraged all stakeholders at the central and regional levels to carry out student admissions in a more transparent manner this year.
She emphasized that efforts to improve educational services must be continued to ensure a better learning process for the nation's children.
Earlier on Friday, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Abdul Mu'ti said that his ministry has proposed a new scheme for student admissions to President Prabowo Subianto.
Mu'ti expressed the hope that the new scheme would be agreed upon soon to secure enough time to carry out the dissemination of information to schools and parents.
