"We want human resources in transmigration areas to be able to develop the region," Deputy Minister of Transmigration Viva Yoga Mauladi said after a meeting with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, as quoted from a statement on Sunday.
According to him, improving the education quality in transmigration areas is an important key to the development.
Mauladi conveyed that transmigrant children who are able to become superior HR can strengthen transmigration areas to become one of the driving forces of the national economy to achieve eight percent growth.
So far, transmigration areas have contributed to eradicating poverty, improving the standard of living, building national food barns, and uniting and integrating the nation, he remarked.
Seeing the importance of education for the development of transmigration areas, his party called for the establishment of superior schools and universities in transmigration areas.
Mauladi said this program is fully supported by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology.
"Superior human resources can develop transmigration areas to become more advanced, modern, and able to create innovations," he continued.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Satryo Soemantri Brodjonegoro, conveyed his party's readiness to develop distance learning in collaboration with local universities, support the LPDP Patriot scholarship, and provide assistance in developing industrialization in transmigration areas.
"This is a noble idea. We will support it," Brodjonegoro said.
Earlier, the Transmigration Ministry and the Endowment Fund for Education Agency (LPDP) planned to launch the Patriot Scholarship Program in 2025 as part of the Patriot Transmigration Program for the young generation interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
The Patriot Transmigration Program and the LPDP Patriot Scholarship do not only target the children of transmigrants but young people in general.
