"This fire (incident) highlights how important it is to be well-prepared for disasters, especially in densely populated neighborhoods," Gibran wrote in the caption of a video posted on his official Instagram account on Wednesday.
After visiting the evacuation post set up for fire victims at the Central Jakarta Police field on Tuesday, Gibran engaged with residents impacted by the blaze.
He noted that the fire had destroyed 543 homes and forced thousands of residents to evacuate during the rainy season, which poses additional risks.
Gibran stated that President Prabowo Subianto had directed the government to act swiftly in addressing this situation and to extend support to the affected residents.
The vice president emphasized that the government is continuously monitoring developments and ensuring that the victims' basic needs, including safe shelter, are being met.
"I hope the local government and relevant agencies can coordinate effectively and prioritize disaster handling, sanitation, logistics supply, and the adequacy of facilities," Gibran stated.
In addition to visiting the Central Jakarta Police evacuation post, VP Gibran also toured the fire site located in a densely populated area on Jalan Kemayoran Gempol Street No. 30, RT. 7/RW. 8, Kemayoran Sub-district, Central Jakarta.
He continued his visit to another evacuation post set up across from the fire site at Al Mu'awwanah Mosque in Kemayoran.
The fire on Tuesday morning, which occurred around 1:15 a.m. local time, affected over 1,700 people from more than 607 households.
