Jakarta (ANTARA) - Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo has said that the giant sea wall program will be integrated with the sanitation management and clean water provision project in Jakarta.

"The program is integrated with sanitation management through the Jakarta Sewerage Development Project (JSDP) and clean water provision through the drinking water supply systems of Karian-Serpong and Jatiluhur I," he informed here on Wednesday.

He emphasized that President Prabowo Subianto is paying attention to the construction of the giant sea wall, which will be built at several locations on the north coast of Java—from Banten, Jakarta, Kudus, Kendal, and Semarang to East Java region.

In the initial phase, the government will build the sea wall in the northern coastal areas of Jakarta, Banten, and Bekasi. The budget for phase one of the construction is estimated to reach Rp123 trillion (USD7.4 billion) in the next eight years.

The construction of the giant sea wall is considered the last option to resolve the continued land subsidence in Jakarta.

To carry out the program, Hanggodo said, the ministry has prepared a strategic plan to implement reliable and sustainable public infrastructure with the main target of 'PU608.'

The PU608 target comprises investment efficiency with an Incremental Capital Output Ratio (ICOR) of less than 6, poverty alleviation of zero percent, and economic growth of eight percent per year.

To support PU608, the minister advised all his staff to continue working together to achieve the main sector targets by 2029.

"Starting from the management of water resources with a target capacity of 63.54 cubic meters per capita and efficiency of irrigation water utilization of USD0.45 per m3," he said.

In addition, they will pursue the construction of road and bridge networks with a target travel time of 1.7 hours per 100 kilometers on the main national road network.

Lastly, they will seek to improve basic services for the creation of employment with a target of providing 30 percent of households with access to safe sanitation, processing 38 percent of waste piles in waste processing facilities, and providing 51.36 percent of urban households access to piped drinking water.
