"In principle, the government supports the DPR's initiative to prepare the SOE Bill," Thohir said during a working meeting with DPR's Commission VI here on Thursday.
He emphasized the importance of strengthening the role and contribution of SOEs.
He said he believes that the management of SOEs must be comprehensive, covering all aspects, including governance and the establishment of the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara).
According to the minister, SOEs play a vital role in national development and community welfare as they support government programs, for instance, public service obligations (PSO) and national strategic projects.
The role of SOEs is crucial for achieving the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision with the help of President Prabowo Subianto's Asta Cita main missions.
However, Thohir noted that SOEs face several challenges, including the lack of separation between supervisory and management functions. This hinders the optimization of dividends and effective management of assets and liabilities.
Therefore, the proposed SOE Bill aims to address these challenges by introducing a more modern and adaptive management system and strengthening corporate governance.
"With this bill, we hope to overcome the existing challenges in asset management, restructuring, and strengthening the role of SOEs in driving economic independence and global competitiveness," Thohir said.
Minister Thohir met chair of DPR's Commission VI, Anggia Ermarini, to discuss the bill on the Third Amendment to Law Number 19 of 2003 concerning SOEs.
Ermarini explained that the urgent need for the bill stems from the significant role of SOEs in managing the country's national resources, as mandated by Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution.
