Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Trade Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri, has expressed support for the plan to promote Indonesian export products at airports.

She made the remarks at the Coordination Meeting for Optimizing Airport Services at Novotel Bali Ngurah Rai Airport, Badung District, Bali, on Thursday.

According to her, airports have a strategic role as the gateway to Indonesia, especially Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, which is an entry gate for many foreign tourists and international businesspersons.

"By placing airports as promotional locations, Indonesian products are expected to become better known to the world, which will ultimately support increasing exports," she explained in a statement released on Thursday.

To ensure airports showcase the nation's flagship products, she said, support in the form of optimal airport infrastructure is also needed.

With good infrastructure, airports in Indonesia can be on par with other airports in the world.

"With good cooperation, we expect the results can support the nation's progress, including the growth of Indonesia's exports," she said.

She underlined that Balinese micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have large potential, given the variety of products they make, ranging from ceramics to body care products.

With this potential, joint efforts are deemed necessary to develop the MSME sector and make it more competitive, including by utilizing airports to promote MSME products at the international level.

To this end, she expressed support for the optimization of airport services, saying she hopes that the use of airports can be maximized for displaying MSME products.

Putri underlined that the Ministry of Trade has set the target of increasing exports by 7.1 percent year on year or USD294.45 billion and raising MSME exports by 9.63 percent yoy or USD19.33 billion by 2025.
