Jakarta (ANTARA) - Sakuranesia Foundation is exploring the opportunity to apply the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) education model to Early Childhood Education (PAUD) students in Indonesia.

Sakuranesia Foundation, in its statement in Jakarta on Saturday, stated that educational cooperation between both nations was explored by its founder, Tovic, and Sakura Ijuin, at Edogawa Kindergarten, Japan, on Friday (Jan 24) to assess the feasibility of adopting this innovative STEAM education model.

"By integrating STEAM education into PAUD in Indonesia, we can develop creative thinking and problem-solving skills in children who will lead the next generation," Tovic affirmed.

Tovic emphasized that Edogawa Kindergarten, part of the AZALEE Group, has successfully implemented this model for around 300 students at the school since 2021, serving as a benchmark for STEAM education.

Tovic highlighted that the AZALEE Group operates 14 schools in the Tokyo metropolitan area, incorporating elements of science, technology, art, and mathematics into its curriculum.

Tovic explained that one of the unique approaches observed is simple activities, such as making a Japanese culinary dish called udon, which blends math and science concepts by measuring and mixing ingredients proportionally.

The practice at the AZALEE Group is not only limited to experiments and crafts but emphasizes creating an environment where children can explore and find joy in their own discoveries.

"The results show a significant increase in children's curiosity and creativity," he remarked.

Tovic said the success of the STEAM approach cannot be separated from the role of Prof. Yasufumi Kawamura from Tokyo University of Science, a STEAM education expert and scientific advisor for the Doraemon anime series.

According to Tovic, the collaboration with Prof. Kawamura helped arouse the curiosity and creativity of children in the kindergarten.

Sakuranesia Foundation is committed to bridging cooperation between Indonesia and Japan in the field of education.

Tovic expressed hope that the approach combining traditional Japanese food culture with elements of STEAM education could also be applied in education in Indonesia.
