"The development of Nusantara is on track for it to become the government center by 2028," Muzani said here on Saturday while commenting on the government's allocation of Rp48.8 trillion (around US$2.98 billion) to advance the development of the new capital.
As instructed by President Prabowo Subianto, the budget will be allocated to complete the legislative and judiciary complexes and the city's supporting ecosystem, as well as to commence the second phase of Nusantara City.
According to Muzani, the development progress is expected to eliminate investor doubts about funding the development of Nusantara.
He is also optimistic that the new capital can be a new center of economic growth.
The MPR chair said that in addition to being the center of government and political activities, Nusantara will also be the center of civilization where important decisions are made.
"Gathering people from zero, with a new atmosphere, a new life—this is what we need to think about so Nusantara can become a new center of attention, a center of government, politics, and civilization," Muzani added.
Earlier, the head of the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN), Basuki Hadimuljono, reported that in the early stage (2022–2024), the government invested Rp89 trillion from the state budget to build key infrastructure in the city.
The infrastructure included toll roads, residential towers, sanitation, and offices.
In addition, as of September 2024, at least Rp58.41 trillion in private-sector investment was also secured for the city's development.
