The deputy speaker emphasized that it is essential for people with disabilities to enjoy the same rights and protection as everyone else in society.
Moerdijat stressed that the government can achieve this by integrating a disability-inclusive approach into its governance practices.
"The readiness of human resources to implement governance with a disability-inclusive approach is a shared responsibility that requires immediate attention," she stated during a meeting with the disability community in Bali, as mentioned in an official press release.
She pointed out that the absence of a disability perspective in governance results in the loss of fundamental rights for disabled individuals.
Some of these rights include access to public services, banking, transportation, and other basic needs.
Moerdijat underscored that this issue demands urgent attention from the government, particularly from regional policymakers.
"Many regions do not have regulations that address the needs of people with disabilities, as required by Law No. 8 of 2016 on Persons with Disabilities," she explained.
She highlighted the importance of collective efforts to uphold the rights and needs of people with disabilities, regardless of political, racial, or religious differences.
With the government's commitment to fulfilling these rights, Moerdijat believes that people with disabilities in Indonesia will have the opportunity to live a decent life like everyone else in the community.
As part of the government's support for fulfilling the rights of the disabled, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka earlier highlighted the need to realize the accessibility in infrastructure, including in the public transportation sector.
