Head of the East Aceh Police Criminal Investigation Unit First Police Inspector Adi Wahyu Nurhidayat noted here on Friday that those foreigners are Myanmar citizens identified by their initials: AB (51), MU (48), MH (46), and NO (45).
"They each have their own roles in the alleged smuggling of dozens of Rohingya immigrants to East Aceh," he remarked.
According to Nurhidayat, AB and MU are believed to have captained the ship, taking turns steering it into Indonesian territory without authorization. Meanwhile, MH served as the navigator, while NO was the engine technician.
He revealed that the information regarding the roles of the suspects was gathered from the Rohingya refugees who were smuggled into Aceh.
Nurhidayat noted that those foreign nationals are suspected of violating Article 120, Paragraph (1) of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning immigration, which carries a minimum sentence of five years and a maximum of 15 years in prison.
"We will continue to investigate this case of smuggling of Rohingya immigrants (to determine) if it is related to the other networks of smuggling of Rohingya people into Aceh," he remarked.
The 76 Rohingya refugees arrived by boat on Leauge Beach in East Aceh District, Aceh Province, on Wednesday (January 29).
The group of 76 refugees includes 37 men, 32 women, and several children. They are currently housed in a temporary shelter set up at the Seuneubok Rawang Football Field, East Peureulak Sub-district, East Aceh.
