Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid noted that the creation of several regulations is important to guarantee that digital platforms operate more responsibly, especially when it comes to safeguarding the rights of people, particularly children, in the digital environment.
"We want to ensure a healthy and productive digital space for all, especially the younger generation," she remarked here on Saturday.
Hafid explained that the government had prepared several regulations, including for the Content Moderation Compliance System (SAMAN), which is an application designed to supervise and enforce compliance.
In addition to that, regulations on publishers' rights and child protection in the digital space will be issued in the near future.
The minister emphasized that the purpose of this action is not to place restrictions on people but rather to strike a balance between freedom of expression and protection of citizens' rights.
"Other countries have already implemented strict regulations on digital platforms, and Indonesia aims to do the same. We want to ensure that all parties, including global platforms, adhere to Indonesia’s regulatory framework," she stated.
Protecting children in the digital space is a top priority for the government. Authorities have consulted academics and experts to determine appropriate age limits for children's access to digital platforms.
Minister Hafid stressed that the new regulations are designed to foster a safer and more responsible digital environment.
The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs is working closely with experts to develop policies that align with children's developmental needs.
Furthermore, she emphasized that the government is maintaining open lines of communication with digital platforms to ensure that this regulation can be put into effect without any problems.
