Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology is pushing for the development of the national aerospace industry through research and technological innovation.

In a statement here on Tuesday, the ministry's Director General of Research and Development, Fauzan Adziman, emphasized the importance of synergy between academicians and industry players in building a more advanced and competitive aviation ecosystem.

In this regard, the ministry plays the role of a policy facilitator to ensure that research and development in Indonesia receive special attention and are implemented effectively and sustainably.

"The research conducted does not have to be 100 percent technical research, (as) it can also be in the area of development of supply chain system strategies in Indonesia and other aspects," he remarked.

Adziman stated that his ministry could provide support through collaborative research programs to seize opportunities to improve the national aviation industry supply chain.

He also noted that several large universities in Indonesia had built Science and Technology Areas as a strategic step in encouraging the downstreaming of research and technology development.

"In the future, the development of the Science and Technology Area in other universities will continue to be expanded to bolster the national innovation ecosystem," he remarked.

In this regard, Rector of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Tatacipta Dirgantara, emphasized the need for cross-sectoral government policy support to strengthen the national aviation industry.

Dirgantara affirmed that the ITB is committed to proactively taking concrete actions to accelerate the implementation of cooperation and ensure the realization of initiatives that have been agreed upon.

Meanwhile, Head of Government Relations for Boeing in Southeast Asia, Landri Subianto, as an industry representative, noted that one of the fields of development that is carried out jointly and is currently pursued by Boeing is Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

Collaboration between universities, industry players, and government in research and development encourages innovation, which is expected to increase efficiency in the use of resources, boost economic growth, and increase global competitiveness.
