"This is only the first stage. I believe the number of Apple vendors in Indonesia will continue to grow," he added in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He said that currently, one Apple vendor is building a factory in Indonesia.
"For now, we only have one Apple vendor compared to Vietnam, which already has more than 34 vendors. I am currently discussing for the addition of two or three vendors," Roeslani added.
Earlier, he informed that the construction of the Apple vendor factory in Indonesia has begun. It will supply 65 percent of AirTag needs worldwide, he added.
According to the minister, the investment in the factory is worth US$1 billion, and it could potentially create jobs for up to 2 thousand people. The investment will continue to be pushed until it reaches US$10 billion.
He said that the vendor factory is targeted to be completed by early 2026.
The investment is expected to create more jobs and help increase national exports, he added.
The production of one Apple cellphone involves hundreds of vendors and currently, those vendors have invested in several countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam, he highlighted.
He added that the entry of Apple vendor investment into Indonesia can be a gateway for the country to become a part of the global value chain and attract other US investors, both Apple vendors and other companies.
The government had snubbed Apple's earlier US$100 million investment proposal, saying it was not proportional to its sales in Indonesia, which reached 2.5 million iPhone units in 2023.
To sell its latest product, the iPhone 16, in Indonesia, Apple has been encouraged by the government to pursue its first investment scheme by establishing production facilities or factories.
However, there has been no announcement yet on further talks regarding iPhone 16 sales in Indonesia after the AirTag investment.
