Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Commission on Violence against Women (Komnas Perempuan) has urged that the Bill on Domestic Workers' Protection (PPRT Bill) be ratified as soon as possible.

"The 2025 National Domestic Workers' Day is expected to be an opportunity to fulfill the hope ... for the ratification of the PPRT Bill into law," deputy chair of Komnas Perempuan, Olivia Chadidjah Salampessy, said at a press conference here on Thursday.

The National Domestic Workers' Day is commemorated in Indonesia on February 15 every year.

According to Salampessy, the ratification of the PPRT Bill is important considering that protection for workers in the informal sector is still lacking, including for domestic workers, most of whom are women.

She said that domestic workers are continuing to experience various forms of violence and the most cruel kinds of torture.

Until 2024, Komnas Perempuan still received complaints about violence experienced by domestic workers, including violence leading to death.

"In addition to torture against domestic workers that lead to femicide, there are also cases of domestic workers experiencing layered violence, namely being victims of human trafficking, sexual violence, and delayed justice," she informed.

In addition to Komnas Perempuan, several other human rights institutions have also pressed for the ratification of the bill, such as the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM), Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI), and National Disability Commission (KND).
