Samarinda (ANTARA) - The Mulawarman University in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, welcomed 12 Japanese students to participate in a program titled "The 3rd International Student Exchange Faculty of Forestry and Tropical Environment Mulawarman University" on Tuesday.

The program is a partnership between the Forestry Faculty at Mulawarman University and several faculties from Japan and has been running for three years.

"What we want to build is an international adaptation, not only students but also lecturers who play a role in the program," the university rector Abdunnur remarked, adding that the program aligns with the university's goal of achieving world-class status.

The Japanese students not only learn about forestry but also the local culture of East Kalimantan. Their itinerary includes visits to various interesting places, such as forestry companies, conservation areas, and the Nusantara Capital City (IKN).

"The goal is for them to have an interesting experience while participating in this student exchange program," Abdunnur remarked.

The university rector expressed optimism about the future of the student exchange program, hoping it will expand and that more students will have opportunities to participate in similar programs abroad.

"Through international student exchanges, we can improve the quality of education and prepare the younger generation to have a global perspective," he added.

Yamashita Natsumi, a participating student from the Department of Sustainable Resource Science, Faculty of Bioresources, Mie University, Japan, shared her excitement about participating in the program.

"Of course, I am happy and want to learn about tropical rainforest," she remarked, adding that her experiences in East Kalimantan will be valuable stories to share with her peers back in the Land of Rising Sun.
