Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni emphasized that the cooperation between Indonesia and Norway has been progressing positively, with the two countries' climate and forestry cooperation being extended through 2030.

Following a meeting with Norwegian Climate and Environment Minister Andreas Bjelland Eriksen here on Wednesday, he expressed appreciation for the cooperation established to address climate change and global warming issues.

"I conveyed that partnership with Norway is one of the best partnerships in the forestry sector," he affirmed.

The minister specifically mentioned the contribution-based funding cooperation, Result Based Contribution (RBC), which has been distributed in four stages, with a total funding of US$216 million. The fourth stage of funding was launched in December 2024.

"This is utilized optimally to jointly protect our forests and improve the welfare of the community with forestry through changes like social forestry," the minister affirmed.

Funding from Norway also contributed to the Community Fund Service for the Environment, which is now open for the second period.

Individuals seeking to make a tangible impact on climate change and promote environmental sustainability at the grassroots level can access funding by submitting proposals to the Indonesian Environment Fund.

On that occasion, Minister Eriksen also highlighted the significant advancements in diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Norway, which have flourished over the past 75 years.

Both nations have made efforts to tackle various issues, including collaboration in addressing climate change and environmental issues.

He explained that the MoU is a form of commitment of the two countries in responding to climate change and protecting the environment.

He lauded the achievements stemming from the cooperation, including a reduction in deforestation.

The minister also expressed appreciation that the RBC funding contributed to the forestry and other land uses (FOLU) sector to achieve the FOLU Net Sink 2030, where carbon absorption exceeds emissions in the FOLU sector.
