Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Housing and Settlement is encouraging public-private partnership schemes to facilitate the construction of affordable housing for the people.

"We continue to encourage the private sector to participate in providing affordable housing," said the ministry's Director General of Urban Housing, Sri Haryati, in Jakarta on Thursday.

She noted that the ministry, as a facilitator and regulator, is ready to gather input from all private parties interested in investing in the development of decent housing for the people.

"We, the government, are open to input. If changes are needed in the rules to attract and ease investment for developers, we can discuss it because collaboration is the key," she remarked.

Haryati affirmed that the government is ready to support private sector involvement in housing development cooperation by providing liquidity incentives and land.

Minister of Housing and Settlement Maruarar Sirait stressed that meeting the people's housing needs requires mutual cooperation between various parties rather than solely relying on the government budget.

He noted that collaboration is essential to achieving the goal of developing 3 million houses as part of the government’s programs.

The government has launched a program to build 3 million houses per year to address Indonesia's housing shortage, with a target of 2 million houses in rural areas and 1 million houses in urban areas.

Sirait expressed hope that private developers would also support the 3 million houses program, which he believes will run smoothly through collaboration among various parties.
