"This delay was initiated after immigration officers determined that the passengers planned to leave the country as migrant workers through non-procedural channels," said the office's head, Gindo Ginting, on Friday.
He explained that many of the passengers claimed they were traveling abroad to visit relatives or for recreational purposes. However, after further investigation, they were unable to provide evidence to support these claims.
"The delay is a preventive measure against human trafficking and smuggling, ensuring that these individuals do not fall victim to criminal activities abroad," he emphasized.
Ginting urged the public to exercise caution when considering offers to work abroad, particularly those from unclear sources. He stressed the importance of ensuring that employment abroad is legally registered and conducted through proper procedures.
"Do not accept offers to work abroad without verifying that the necessary documents are complete, legal, and in compliance with applicable regulations to avoid falling victim to human trafficking or smuggling," he advised.
