He added that the Home Affairs Ministry has the responsibility to enhance the competencies of regional heads.
"The series of sessions for regional heads this year is expected to meet the determined goals," he said during the opening of the retreat at Lembah Tidar Military Academy in Magelang.
He informed that the speakers will discuss several topics to provide insights to regional heads during the retreat.
The topics will seek to build understanding on the main responsibilities of regional heads, the Asta Cita concept, and the work programs of each ministry.
In addition to improving regional leaders' understanding, the retreat aims to build closer relationships among leaders to support the implementation of work programs.
"It is about creating chemistry, emotional bonding, and team building. The bonds among regional heads will strengthen synergy in the future," he explained.
Furthermore, the retreat is structured to be more interactive to encourage engagement not only between the speakers and regional leaders, but also among the leaders themselves.
With this design, Sugiarto expressed the hope that the regional heads can convey their perspectives to the central government.
In addition, he informed that as of Friday night, 450 out of the 503 regional leaders had joined the retreat, while 53 had not arrived.
Out of the 53, five were excused due to illness and one had submitted a written apology.
"That leaves 47 who have not reported anything as of this morning," he said.
