Head of the NIC Task Force, Senior Commissioner Zulkarnaen Harahap, in a statement on Sunday stated the operation took place on February 16.
According to him, the Special Team of Sub-Directorate 3 of the National Police's Criminal Investigation Directorate received information about a shipment of marijuana from Mandailing Natal District, North Sumatra, to Jakarta via land transport using a pickup truck.
Acting on this information, the team immediately conducted analysis and surveillance. On February 16 at noon, they successfully intercepted the shipment of the illicit goods in West Pasaman District, West Sumatra.
"The team managed to arrest two men," Harahap said.
The two suspects, identified by the initials D and I, were acting as couriers, while another suspect, identified as S, remains on the wanted list. However, Harahap did not disclose S's specific role in the crime.
The team seized 74 kilograms of marijuana hidden in four sacks and disguised with fruit. In addition, two cell phones were also confiscated, he added.
Harahap stated that the bust was part of efforts to follow up on President Prabowo Subianto’s directive on drug eradication, as outlined in one of the Astacita visions --namely, strengthening political, legal, and bureaucratic reforms, as well as enhancing the prevention and eradication of corruption, drugs, gambling, and smuggling.
Furthermore, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has also instructed police personnel to intensify drug eradication efforts, Harahap noted.
"General Listyo Sigit has reminded us to continue combating drug-related crimes at all levels, from upstream to downstream," Harahap emphasized.
