The president's secretariat stated that this visit is expected to further strengthen the ties between Indonesia and Russia, leading to the forging of more mutually beneficial strategic partnerships.
"This visit also reaffirms the shared commitment of Indonesia and Russia to enhancing their strategic partnership, especially in the security and defense fields, and exploring opportunities for future cooperation," the secretariat noted in its statement cited in Jakarta.
Earlier, Indonesian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arrmanatha Nasir revealed that President Prabowo and Secretary Shoigu would touch upon economic, defense, and security matters during the Russian envoy's visit to the palace.
Shoigu arrived at the Presidential Palace at around 12:30 p.m. local time and was received by State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) General Agus Subiyanto, and the guards of honor.
President Prabowo then welcomed his Russian guest to the veranda of the palace before inviting him to the Credential Room, where they shook hands and participated in a photo session.
The two thereafter headed to Prabowo's office to exchange views on strategic issues, including the Indonesia-Russia bilateral relations and regional security.
Following the discussion, Prabowo and Shoigi mutually introduced members of their delegations.
Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) M. Herindra, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister Arrmanatha Nasir, among others, accompanied President Prabowo during Shoigu's visit.
Shoigu earlier visited the headquarters of the Indonesian Ministry of Defense on the same day to explore potential military cooperation schemes with Defense Minister Sjamsoeddin.
