At the launch of the Indonesia Cyber Crime Combat Center (IC4), he said that the regions currently recognized as AI technology hubs are America, Europe, and China.
According to Patria, the policy developments in these regions show that the progress of AI technology is also influenced by geopolitical factors.
"America's regulations strongly promote innovation because they embrace liberal values that allow free competition to thrive and lead to better innovations," he observed.
He added that the European Union uses a horizontal approach to establish stricter policies.
Under this approach, important values that need to be included in AI regulations are formulated first, followed by the creation of policies for each sector.
"Meanwhile, China takes a similar approach to America's but increases state control over AI developments, especially concerning innovation and investment in the AI development sector," Nezar said.
Based on the policy-making models in the three hubs, he suggested that stricter regulations be developed by combining horizontal and vertical approaches.
He explained that the combined approach could be applied in countries that are still in the initial stages of developing AI policies.
On a separate occasion, Patria underscored the need to adopt good practices to foster ethics in AI development and use.
AI ethics not only help ensure that AI development and use benefit society but also prevent the associated negative risks, he said.
