Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto, accompanied by Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin and Deputy Agriculture Minister Sudaryono, met with a delegation of Brazilian businessmen on Wednesday (February 26).

According to Sadikin, the Brazilian delegation offered products at affordable prices.

"They offered cheap and abundant agricultural products. They also brought experts in medicine," the minister revealed after the meeting at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta.

When questioned about the types of medicines offered, Sadikin replied that generic drugs were among those provided.

"Hence, they are cheap," he added.

The meeting at the Presidential Palace Complex lasted almost two hours. Sadikin and Sudaryanto were then seen leaving the complex, followed by a group of experts and businessmen from Brazil, totaling six people.

Apart from health, the agricultural sector is one of the highlights of Prabowo's administration, considering the president is targeting food self-sufficiency by creating food barns in various regions.

In January, Prabowo expressed optimism that Indonesia could achieve food self-sufficiency earlier than the four-year term of his administration.

"I believe we can achieve food self-sufficiency before four years," he remarked.

He affirmed that his ministers reported that food self-sufficiency was likely to be achieved before the second year of his administration.

Food self-sufficiency, which is a priority program of the government, is currently being accelerated across sectors. The program involves several ministries in collaboration with the National Police and Indonesian Defense Forces.

To achieve food self-sufficiency, the Ministry of Agriculture is targeting 2.3 million hectares of land for cultivation as rice fields and food crop plantations.

The lands to be cultivated are divided into optimizing swamp land, opening new rice fields, and normalizing tertiary, primary, and secondary irrigation in existing areas.

Some of the soon-to-be cultivated rice fields are located in eastern Indonesia, namely in Merauke District, South Papua.

The government is also preparing an irrigation system, fertilizers, and seeds for farmer groups.
