Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) chief Muhammad Syafii has said that SAR resources from Jakarta and Bandung have been dispatched to help flood victims in the Greater Jakarta area, including Bekasi, the most affected region.

At the Presidential Palace complex here on Tuesday, Syafii affirmed that Basarnas officers deployed for evacuation operations are working in coordination with the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).

"We have deployed our resources from Jakarta and Bandung," he said.

He informed that besides inflatable boats, Basarnas has also deployed other SAR equipment for the flood rescue operation, such as drones to map and identify flood victims who are yet to be rescued from their homes.

The agency chief added that the resources will be deployed to flooded areas in Bekasi, Bogor, and Jakarta.

"We have also carried out rescue operations in nine areas according to requests received by our call center. We conduct our operations per requests," he said.

The Basarnas chief was among those summoned to the Presidential Palace complex on Tuesday afternoon for President Prabowo Subianto's briefing for ministers and government agency heads.

Heavy rainfall in the Greater Jakarta region, encompassing Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Bekasi, and Tangerang, has caused river overflows, submerging many residential areas by 1 to 4 meters. The region has been hit by rain for several days.

According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency's deputy for meteorology, Guswanto, the rainfall recorded in Bogor city on Sunday (March 2, 2025) can be classified as extreme since its intensity surpassed 110 mm in one day.

The extreme rain intensity is believed to have caused the Ciliwung River watershed to overflow, causing flash floods upstream in several regions in Bogor and major floods downstream, which cover Jakarta, Depok, Bekasi, and Tangerang.
