According to the agency's statement received here on Tuesday, the rescue teams have begun evacuating flood-hit people in Jati Asih, Bekasi, as well as the Cillitan, Cawang, and Kramat Jati regions of East Jakarta.
"The Baznas immediately responded to this disaster by fielding BTB teams to help with the evacuation process of flood victims to safer places in shelters," Baznas' Head of Distribution and Utilization, Saidah Sakwan, noted.
She highlighted that the rescue teams employ inflatable boats to transport the residents in distress to safety.
"In addition to partaking in evacuation processes, Baznas has begun collecting data on the urgent needs of the people hit by floods in Jakarta and Bekasi," she added.
The official further remarked that the philanthropic agency would continue to exert its utmost effort to help the people survive the rain-triggered disaster, demonstrating its contribution to and care for disaster-related issues in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Deputy Head of BTB Taufiq Hidayat highlighted that his side had managed to rescue dozens of residents, including the elderly and children.
"Today, March 4, we are operating in the Kemang IFI residential estate in the Jati Asih region, Bekasi. We have been here since 6 in the morning, navigating floodwaters measuring between two meters and three meters in height," he revealed.
Hidayat then remarked that the alms agency has moved to provide pre-dawn and fast-breaking meals to the flood victims.
"Considering that we are currently in the month of Ramadan, a team from Baznas is preparing packages of meals for breaking the fast," he stated.
