"Japan is a tomodachi, a trade friend of Indonesia. We appreciate Japan's initiative to establish several new collaborations, especially in the digital economy sector by developing artificial intelligence (AI)," deputy for the coordination of international economic cooperation at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Edi Prio Pambudi, said in a statement on Wednesday.
At the 3rd Public-Private Dialogue Track 1.5 with the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI), he emphasized the need for expanding collaboration between the two countries.
One of the initiatives that will be promoted is the Japan-Indonesia Fast Track Pitch program.
Under the program, Indonesia and Japan have agreed to cooperate in developing an ecosystem that supports the growth of startups and innovation-based businesses.
The two countries will also begin intensive discussions to promote further collaboration in AI development.
In addition to the digital sector, Indonesia and Japan plan to carry out cooperation in the green industry.
Japan highlighted the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) agenda, which includes several potential projects to support Indonesia's mineral downstreaming and energy transition programs.
"With the continuation of industrial cooperation projects between Indonesia and Japan with the principle of a green economy under AZEC, we hope that relations between the two countries can run more comprehensively," deputy minister of international relations of the METI, Matsuo Takehiko, said.
During the dialogue, participants from the Japanese private sector presented demonstration projects for the decarbonization of industrial areas and their vision for supporting Indonesia's net-zero emission target.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian private sector highlighted the downstreaming policy of important minerals to support the renewable energy industry.
Indonesia and Japan also agreed on several initiatives to increase the capacity of the Indonesian workforce.
In the next few years, the employment cooperation will focus on increasing expertise in the manufacturing sector through the New Manufacturing Industry Development Center (New MIDEC) initiative.
The program is expected to open up internship opportunities and skills certification for the Indonesian workforce.
