"We will seek the BPK's assistance to assess the state losses. The calculation will begin soon," Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin told the media at his office in Jakarta on Thursday.
He informed that he has instructed Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah to expedite the investigation into the graft case, which has sparked nationwide outrage.
"We will continue the investigation, and I have ordered the Jampidsus to reach a prompt conclusion to this case so that the public can celebrate the upcoming Eid al-Fitr in a better atmosphere," he said.
Investigators from the Jampidsus office are probing the alleged corruption committed by high-ranking officers of Pertamina's subsidiaries and cooperation contract contractors between 2018 and 2023.
The losses to the state from the collusion between the parties in 2023 are estimated at nearly Rp194 trillion (USD1 = about Rp16,350).
The figure is based on Rp35 trillion in crude oil exports, Rp2.7 trillion in brokered crude oil imports, Rp9 trillion in brokered fuel imports, Rp126 trillion in compensation payments, and Rp21 trillion in subsidy budgets.
The Attorney General's Office has named nine individuals as suspects in the case
They include President Director of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Riva Siahaan; President Director of PT Pertamina International Shipping Yoki Firmandi; and Feedstock and Product Optimization Director of PT Kilang Pertamina International Sani Saifuddin.
Following the announcement, prosecutors began searching for evidence and questioning witnesses, including technical officers at Pertamina.
President Director of Pertamina Simon Aloysius Mantiri has issued an apology to the public over the corruption concerns and promised to make improvements within the energy giant.
