Dressed in a black-brown batik, Dalio was seated between President Prabowo and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Friday.
"Indonesia's Danantara is a product of the consolidation of state-owned enterprises as the Indonesian government's economic arms. This consolidation is aimed at achieving better results and enhancing performance," he noted in his opening remarks.
Prabowo said he views Danantara as a necessary tool for improving the management of state-owned assets, ensuring that the nation can optimally capitalize on them.
On that note, the president invited all parties, including Dalio, the founder of the world's largest hedge fund, Bridgewater Associates, to share their critical perspectives and experiences in investment strategies.
He further emphasized that insights from seasoned business leaders are crucial for the Indonesian government to approach asset management with caution and transparency, particularly regarding those managed by Danantara.
"We aim to move swiftly with precision and caution," he remarked.
The head of state then made a similar call to the Indonesian business magnates attending the discussion: Andi Syamsuddin Arsyad (Haji Isam), Sugianto Kusuma (Aguan), Prajogo Pangestu, Boy Thohir, Tomy Winata, Anthony Salim, Franky Wijaya, Dato Tahir, James Riady, Chairul Tanjung, and Hilmi Panigoro.
"I would like to invite Indonesian economic figures with decades of experience in management and investment to collaborate with the government," he told the Indonesian tycoons.
He expressed confidence that international and domestic conglomerates could contribute to the government's pursuit of effective and efficient management of state assets at Danantara.
Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, Chairman of the National Economic Council Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya also attended the meeting.
