Ternate, North Maluku (ANTARA) - Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin visited Chasan Boesoerie Hospital in Ternate, North Maluku, on Sunday to review facilities and conveyed willingness in the provision of medical equipment assistance.

He listened to the complaints and needs of the hospital, especially regarding the budget and lack of medical equipment.

He then conveyed the government's readiness to provide assistance to several hospitals that require special attention, including four hospitals in North Maluku that are a priority in this visit.

On that occasion, Sadikin said he had seen the hospital in Taliabu, which is quite far away.

"I asked for improvement in access to the hospital. For the hospital in Maba, I have not reviewed it directly, but we hope the construction can be completed this year," he remarked.

He said the government would assist with medical equipment to improve hospital services in the region.

"We will provide medical equipment, such as heart examination equipment so patients do not need to be referred. In addition, we will provide cancer therapy equipment which is quite expensive. This hospital does need more complete facilities," the minister noted.

He also highlighted the condition of health facilities in North Maluku, where of the 23 existing hospitals, most still lack adequate medical equipment.

After reviewing the emergency unit and a heart disease building, Sadikin and his entourage headed to the airport to continue their journey to Maba, East Halmahera.

The Governor of North Maluku, Sherly Tjoanda, and the Regional Secretary of North Maluku also accompanied him on the agenda.

During his working visit, he also conducted the groundbreaking for Bobong Regional Hospital in East Halmahera.

Head of the Leadership Administrative Bureau of the North Maluku Provincial Government, Rahwan Suamba, said the groundbreaking was the initial step in the program to improve the hospital to Class C.

This activity is one of President Prabowo Subianto's Quick Win/Best Results Program (PHTC) in modernizing 66 regional hospitals in the most remote cities and districts in Indonesia.
