"Today, we discussed more on cooperation between universities in Indonesia and universities in Saudi Arabia," Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto stated.
Yuliarto made the statement following discussions with Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Indonesia, ASEAN, and Timor-Leste Faisal Abdullah H. Amodi during their meeting at the Embassy of Saudi Arabia, here on Wednesday (Mar 12).
The minister mentioned personally collaborating with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (Kaust), one of the leading universities in Saudi Arabia.
Through the meeting, Yuliarto expressed hope that his ministry would broaden its cooperation with leading universities in Saudi Arabia.
The expected collaboration involves both professor exchanges and joint research initiatives between the two countries.
"We hope that more professors in Indonesia can collaborate with professors at leading campuses in Saudi Arabia, as well as more joint research programs or projects between professors there and here," he remarked.
The minister stated that after Eid al-Fitr 2025, the two parties will meet again to formulate the cooperation plan more concretely.
"His Excellency, the Ambassador, said that we will meet again to formulate more concrete cooperation with the rectors here. Then, we can later bridge the gap to cooperate with the campuses there (in Saudi Arabia)," he added.
Minister Yuliarto is also upbeat that this collaboration will enable his ministry to invite professors in Saudi Arabia to serve as adjunct faculty members in Indonesia.
"And also some of our students can visit as researchers at leading campuses in Saudi Arabia, which are indeed advanced," the minister remarked.
In the meantime, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Indonesia, ASEAN, and Timor-Leste Faisal Abdullah H. Amodi welcomed the cooperation plan, emphasizing its role in intensifying cooperation between the two countries, especially in the field of education.
"Regarding today's discussion, we spoke about education because many Indonesian students study in Saudi Arabia," he remarked.
Ambassador Abdullah H. Amodi highlighted that educational cooperation between the two countries has a long-standing history.
He expressed hope that this meeting would lead to even stronger university collaborations between the two countries in the future.
"This cooperation between universities will be further strengthened in the future so that it will ultimately strengthen and contribute to the cooperative relationship between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia," the ambassador added.
