Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar, has urged the Buddhist community to focus on the sacredness aspect during the national celebration of Vesak Day at Borobudur Temple.

He made the request during a meeting with monks and Buddhist community leaders at the Ministry of Religious Affairs' office here on Friday. He was accompanied by director general of Buddhist guidance, Supriyadi.

"I hope that during Vesak Day celebration, we do not lose its sacred elements. The sacred humanitarian aspects of Vesak should not be overshadowed by the celebratory aspects. The joy of the event should not overshadow its profound depth," he said.

"When someone leaves a place of worship, the lantern in their heart will shine brightly. We must ensure that these miracles are not tainted by things that are not noble," he added.

He also advised that the commemoration of Vesak Day be kept free from non-religious interests, whether political, business, public, or personal. According to him, such interests should be kept separate as much as possible.

Minister Umar said that while Borobudur Temple must be preserved, there are challenges related to its well-being.

He added that Borobudur Temple is not merely a site where everyone can take pictures and engage in other activities. Borobudur should provide mental clarity to those who go there, he continued.

"Borobudur should create a clear mind for those who gather there, regardless of their religion. Borobudur must purify the hearts of those who come together there, regardless of their faith," he said.
