Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chair of the National Vesak Committee 2025 Karuna Murdaya stated that the National Vesak Celebration will be held on May 12, 2025, at Borobudur Temple, Central Java.

"We support Borobudur Temple as a spiritual tourism site. We hope for the minister's presence to deliver a speech during National Vesak 2025," Murdaya remarked here on Friday.

Murdaya conveyed this statement during an audience with Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar, who was accompanied by the ministry's Director General of Buddhist Community Guidance, Supriyadi.

Murdaya explained that the Vesak commemoration will be attended by more than 150 thousand people who will also witness the release of lanterns during the peak of the Vesak night.

Various religious activities will be conducted, including a social service in the form of free medical treatment for eight thousand people.

In addition, a Vesak procession will be carried out from Mendut Temple to Borobudur Temple, and a main stage at Borobudur, where a lantern festival will be held.

"Monks and the Buddhist communities and leaders are very much looking forward to the minister's presence at this National Vesak event," Murdaya stated.

Earlier, Minister Umar conveyed a message to Buddhists commemorating Vesak this year to focus on sacredness during the Vesak ceremony at Borobudur Temple.

"I hope that during the Vesak Day celebration, we do not lose its sacred elements. The sacred humanitarian aspects of Vesak should not be overshadowed by the celebratory aspects. The joy of the event should not overshadow its profound depth," he stated.

"When someone leaves a place of worship, the lantern in their heart will shine brightly. We must ensure that these miracles are not tainted by things that are not noble," he affirmed.
