"Ramadan is a casred month for Muslims. During this time, Muslims are obligated to fast, and it was this month that the Quran was revealed as a guide for life," Secretary General of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Kamaruddin Amin, stated in Jakarta on Saturday.
Amin remarked that the program, titled "Indonesia Khataman Al Quran," will be held simultaneously nationwide and aims to strengthen Islamic and national spirit values while fostering a deeper love, understanding, and practice of the Quran among Muslims.
The event will include participants from various backgrounds, such as Quran recitation institutions, religious study groups, Islamic boarding schools, madrasas, and members of the general public.
An estimated 350,000 groups, from Aceh to Papua, are expected to join the event, having registered through the official website in advance.
The Quran completion sessions will be conducted collectively in groups or assemblies, with each group consisting of three to ten participants, led by a designated coordinator.
Amin further explained that the Indonesia Khataman Al Quran program will commence on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at 00:01 AM WIB and continue until 7:00 PM WIB. This will be followed by a tadarus (collective recitation) of Juz 30 led by the Imam of Istiqlal Mosque at 8:00 PM WIB, which will be attended offline and online by the public.
"This program is expected to be a historic moment in promoting Quran completion widely and sustainably across Indonesia," he remarked.
Meanwhile, the Director of Islamic Higher Education Sahiron called on all parties, particularly the academic community of Islamic universities, to participate in and support the Indonesia Khataman Al Quran event.
"The Indonesia Khataman Al Quran program is a significant and strategic initiative in strengthening our spiritual and national values contributing to the building of our nation's civilization," he stated.
