Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto announced that his government plans to initiate 30 strategic investment projects across sectors this year.

"I have recently convened with my team from the Red and White Cabinet, and we have decided to launch approximately 30 grand projects this year," Subianto remarked in his speech for the inauguration of a metal smelter of PT Freeport Indonesia.

Speaking in Gresik District, East Java, on Monday, the president highlighted that these megaprojects are expected to open as many as eight million job opportunities for the people.

According to Prabowo, the goal is to spur capital flow into downstream and upstream sectors that offer strategic values.

"The 30 megaprojects will not focus only on the downstream, as we will also invest in strategic fields in the upstream sector," he revealed.

He highlighted that the government would pay special attention to the agriculture and fisheries sectors in this initiative, believing that these fields have significantly contributed to Indonesia's foreign exchange and wield the potential to absorb the workforce on a large scale.

The president further backed his argument by highlighting that Indonesia is blessed with profound natural resources.

"We are very optimistic and very grateful for the resources we possess. It is our responsibility to properly manage these resources by adopting good governance and ensuring transparency and accountability," he stated.

The head of state then affirmed that this investment program would be instrumental for Indonesia to solidify its economy and transform into a more prosperous and independent nation.

"Ladies and gentlemen, this initiative will become a new source of power and energy for Indonesia's future," he remarked.
