Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka emphasized the need for Indonesian teachers to engage with and embrace artificial intelligence (AI), asserting that this approach is vital to keeping pace with swift technological advancements.

"We cannot afford to lag behind. It is crucial that we all, including teachers, immediately adapt to this technology because its development is rapid," he told teachers.

Speaking while reviewing a workshop and trial of AI learning at Al Madinah Integrated Islamic Senior High School in Bogor District, West Java, on Tuesday, Gibran asserted that incorporating AI into school curricula is necessary to boost the productivity and creativity of Indonesia's young talents.

"Hopefully, AI will be designated as an additional or optional school subject," he remarked.

During the visit, the vice president observed students at the Islamic school learning to generate basic prompts for an AI application.

While acknowledging the varied conveniences AI has to offer, Gibran reminded the students that this technology should not be viewed as a shortcut to finding solutions.

He encouraged the young talents to instead leverage this cutting-edge digital technology to enhance their creativity and productivity.

Gibran also shared his initiative of introducing AI in schools, noting that he had initiated it by organizing the first AI education trial at a senior high school in Jakarta last week.

"As for this week, we are targeting three schools. The goal of these trials is to understand how teachers and students respond to this initiative," he remarked.

Meanwhile, the headmaster of Al Madinah School, Eka Wulandari, remarked that the vice president's initiative would be highly beneficial for her students.

She expressed confidence that AI can serve as a valuable tool for improving the quality and effectiveness of teaching and learning activities.
