Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Transportation announced on Wednesday the readiness of 404 aircraft to support air travel during the upcoming Eid al-Fitr holidays.

Acting Director General of Air Transportation Lukman F. Laisa said that the ministry projected a 12 percent rise in air passengers for this year's Eid holidays, with an expected total of more than 6.19 million passengers compared to last year's 5.53 million.

"We ensure that the air transportation capacity required for the Eid homecoming season is sufficient. Although the current projected need is 325 aircraft, we have prepared 404 aircraft, which are ready to operate," he said.

He added that, with such a condition, regular flight services are deemed capable of handling the anticipated passenger surge.

The Directorate General of Air Transportation will monitor 60 airports during the holidays.

Laisa said that flight inspectors in air transportation, airport operations, flight navigation, flight security, airworthiness, and aircraft operations also conduct supervision and safety checks (ramp checks) before departure according to the predetermined schedule.

He noted that the peak of outbound travel is estimated to be on March 28, and the peak of return travel on April 6.

"Collaboration among ministries and institutions is crucial to ensuring a smooth flow of travel while also providing security and comfort for the public," Laisa added.

He said that his office had instructed the Heads of Airport Authority Offices for Regions I to X, flight navigation organizers, Air Transportation Business Entities, and airport managers to work optimally according to their respective duties.

Laisa also highlighted that to address potential extreme weather conditions, a contingency plan has been prepared for accidents, unforeseen circumstances (force majeure), and security or public order threats.

"Additionally, delay management services are in place to ensure air transportation services operate in accordance with applicable regulations," he remarked.
