Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto and Forum Zakat representatives convened on Tuesday (March 18) to discuss several program proposals, including a fully funded scholarship program targeting students from low-income families.
"The Zakat Scholarship program is very good. We will coordinate on the technical aspects to ensure that no one receives the scholarship doubly and ensure equitable access to quality higher education for all, especially for those with economic limitations," Yuliarto noted in the ministry's statement on Wednesday.
The scholarship program is set to cover tuition fees and living expenses for eligible students.
Additionally, the meeting touched on critical issues such as the amount of alms funds that will be managed, the scholarship program proposal, and efforts to enhance alms literacy among members of the Indonesian community.
Minister Yuliarto also elaborated on some efforts to expand access to higher education for both students and lecturers through scholarship programs for master's and doctoral degrees.
Meanwhile, the ministry has also collaborated with the private sector and philanthropic institutions to diversify funding sources to support these scholarship programs.
"We certainly expect to collaborate on several programs. I also hope Forum Zakat can actively participate along with other zakat institutions," he remarked.
Hence, Minister Yuliarto said his side opens extensive opportunities for the private sector, institutions, and other agencies to contribute to creating more equitable and quality higher education in the country.
