Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono and his Australian counterpart Penny Wong expressed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in priority sectors, under the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

"We will continue to push the bilateral Comprehensive Strategic Partnership through mutually beneficial cooperation in critical sectors such as trade and investment, critical minerals, and electric vehicles and battery products," Sugiono stated during a meeting with Wong in Sydney on Thursday.

According to a joint statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade received in Jakarta, Sugiono also highlighted other potential areas of cooperation, including agriculture and food security, education and research, defense and security, and people-to-people relations between both countries.

Sugiono viewed the meeting with Wong as a testament to the strong relations between the two countries, founded on shared values, respect for national sovereignty, and a commitment to promoting peace in the Indo-Pacific region and globally.

Meanwhile, Minister Wong emphasized that mutual trust and strong friendship with Indonesia serve as a strong foundation for fostering economic cooperation under the bilateral Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

"Strengthening economic interaction with Indonesia is important for both countries and is a key effort by Australia to diversify our economies through the ever-growing Southeast Asian market," she remarked.

According to the joint statement, both countries agreed to optimize the strategic partnership by advancing shared development priorities, strengthening people-to-people ties, and deepening cooperation in regional defense and security.

The two ministers then agreed to update the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Action Plan for the 2025-2029 period ahead of the upcoming leaders' meeting.

According to the statement, Indonesia's economic growth provides huge opportunities for Australian businesses and investors, especially amid the high demand for Australian products, health, and education services in Indonesia.

On the other hand, Australia also acknowledged increasing Indonesian investments within its borders.

Both ministers noted that the visit of a high-level Indonesian business delegation to Australia this week follows Australia's largest-ever investor mission to Indonesia some time ago to explore Southeast Asia's potential.
