Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has revealed that the state utilized a budget of Rp13.6 trillion (nearly USD821 million) to implement the 50-percent power discount policy in January and February this year.

"The total provisional value of budget realization has reached Rp13.6 trillion," she said in a post on her Instagram account @smindrawati, which was accessed from here on Monday

Indrawati informed that the power incentive benefited 71.1 million residents in January and 64.8 million the next month.

The state treasurer highlighted that the national initiative positively impacted the inflation rate of products with administered prices, and thereby helped keep national inflation rates at a favorable level.

"This policy is the government's effort to maintain the purchasing power of the people. Hopefully, by maintaining public consumption levels, we will succeed in continuously stimulating the economy," she said.

Earlier, on March 3, 2025, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reported that Indonesia experienced a deflation of 0.09 percent year-on-year (yoy), 0.48 percent month-to-month, and 1.24 percent year-to-date in February 2025.

BPS Head Amalia Adininggar Widaysanti emphasized that the year-on-year deflation is the first since March 2000.

She mainly attributed the deflation to the half-price electricity stimulus, which was made available for subscribers of state-run power company PLN with a power capacity ranging from 450 to 2,200 volt-amperes during the first two months of this year.

According to Widaysanti, products with administered prices experienced deflation of 9.02 percent yoy, while goods and services with persistent or volatile prices continued to see yoy inflation.

Bearing that in mind, she emphasized that the purchasing power of Indonesian citizens remains strong despite the rare deflationary phenomenon.
