Lahadalia made this statement in response to journalists' questions about Danantara's top management, which includes experienced figures, including Indonesia's sixth President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, and the seventh, Joko Widodo.
“Danantara is a financial institution owned by the state. It is like Singapore's Temasek. It is an investment management agency that must be run professionally and credibly,” he noted here on Wednesday.
He stressed that Danantara's credibility is well maintained, as evidenced by President Prabowo Subianto's decision not to include placeholder positions in the agency's management structure.
The minister affirmed that this reflects the government's commitment to ensuring Danantara is managed by individuals with reputation, integrity, and capability.
“It is very professional and credible that even Mr Prabowo did not recommend a single person. It is done very professionally,” he stated.
With such professional management, he is optimistic that Danantara can evolve into a source of national pride and bolster Indonesia's economic growth.
Furthermore, he expressed no objection to the inclusion of foreign professionals in Danantara's management.
“I think as long as they are professional, renowned figures and have global experience, there is no problem," he remarked.
As is known, several notable names in the global financial market have joined the management of Danantara, such as Jeffrey Sachs, economist and public policy analyst who is concurrently a professor at Columbia University; the legendary investor and one of the wealthiest people in the world, Ray Dalio; and Former Prime Minister of Thailand, Thaksin Shinawatra.
