Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) has presented four recommendations to address the terror act involving severed pig heads and dead rats sent to the Tempo media office.

During a press conference here on Thursday, Komnas HAM commissioner Anis Hidayah first urged the police to complete a quick, accurate, transparent, and accountable investigation and inquiry into the case.

"The second is to encourage witness and victim protection agencies to provide protection to the victims and witnesses related to the incident," she remarked.

The third recommendation involves providing physical and psychological recovery support for the victims and their families.

"Fourth, the government must respect and guarantee press freedom as one of the essences of the right to freedom of opinion and expression, and also as the fourth pillar of democracy, so that similar incidents do not occur in the future," she elaborated.

She pointed out that the pig head incident against Tempo constitutes at least five human rights violations.

The first violation pertains to intimidation, while the second concerns an act of terror targeting journalists, undermining press freedom.

"The third point is that the action affecting Tempo is a form of an assault aimed at human rights defenders. The fourth point is related to the right to justice, and the fifth is that it disrupted the public right to information," she stated.

Hidayah stressed that public access to information—a guaranteed human right—is protected under Indonesia's Constitution and human rights laws.

"The action against journalists and the Tempo media is a form of human rights violation regarding press freedom, which is an essential aspect of human rights, namely the right to express opinions and ideas," she added.
