Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Police (Polri) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo assured the public that his team remains committed to providing top-notch services to facilitate residents participating in this year's Eid al-Fitr homecoming exodus.

During an inspection at the Cikampek Utama Toll Gate in West Java on Friday, he urged all officers assigned to oversee the Eid travels to stay well-prepared, as the peak of the homecoming is expected between tonight and early the following morning.

"The peak of the Eid exodus has not yet occurred, so I want everyone to remain prepared to provide the finest services," he told his subordinates, as stated in a Polri release cited in Jakarta.

General Prabowo highlighted that Polri had adjusted its traffic management strategy for this year's exodus, particularly in implementing the one-way scheme.

He stated that rather than implementing the scheme across the Cikampek Utama Toll Gate at kilometer 70 and Kalikangkung Toll Gate at kilometer 414, the police opted to apply it gradually this year, based on the traffic volume.

He highlighted that this strategy had contributed to preventing overcrowding, shortening travel times, and decreasing the incidence of road accidents.

For instance, Eid travelers now take only five hours and 12 minutes to travel from Jakarta to Central Java.

"This is significantly faster than last year's travel time. Additionally, the average speed has increased from 70.74 to 82.94 km per hour," Prabowo noted.

The police chief indicated that this year's total of accidents stands at 26, a 16 percent decline from last year's figure of 31.

"Moreover, the number of victims has decreased by 17 percent, from 54 to 45, with fatalities dropping from 12 in 2024 to 3 this year, a 75 percent reduction," he added.

The police chief expressed confidence that these figures reflected improved travel management during this year's Eid homecoming season.
