Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the National Police Traffic Corps, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, has advised the public traveling home for the Eid celebration to travel without using motorcycles.

In a statement received here on Sunday, Suryonugroho said that he does not prohibit travelers from using motorcycles.

However, he made this recommendation in order to minimize traffic accidents, which predominantly involve two-wheeled vehicles during homecoming trips.

“In the homecoming period in 2024, 75 percent of the accidents that happened involved two-wheeled vehicles. This is why we need to manage it properly; we must ensure safety from point to point," he stated.

He indicated that it would be better if travelers used other modes of transportation or services.

Suryonugroho also recommended that people planning to travel home on motorcycles take advantage of free homecoming programs organized by the ministries, government agencies, or state-owned enterprises (SOEs).

In addition, he also suggested that the public make use of the homecoming convenience service provided by the police, namely the Valet & Ride program.

"We urge motorcyclists or two-wheeled vehicle travelers to utilize the Valet & Ride service,” he said.

The Valet & Ride service is provided by the police along routes in Central Java where fatigued motorcyclists can leave their motorcycles in trucks and switch to buses to continue their journey together to their hometowns.

This service is free of charge. The route is from the Nasmoco checkpoint in Brebes, Central Java, and the Semarang City Police Headquarters.

This program will take place from March 24 to 30, 2025. There will be three departure times each day, at 1:00 PM, 4:00 PM, and 8:00 PM.

The Central Java Regional Police itself has prepared nine buses, six trucks, and three escort vehicles for the program. These vehicles are expected to transport up to 1,890 people.
