"The policy of cutting toll road fees and offering flight ticket discounts reflects the government's commitment to easing the burden on the people. This move surely deserves appreciation," he said, as cited in a press statement ANTARA received here on Saturday.
He assessed that these tariff reductions would particularly benefit homecoming travelers from middle—or lower-income groups.
Aras, however, reminded the government that these rebates must be complemented by measures to enhance the quality of toll roads and airplanes.
Speaking about toll roads, the legislator deemed it crucial to ensure the availability of quality rest areas, complete with clean toilets, gas stations, and medical services.
Given the tendency for heavy traffic during homecoming seasons, he emphasized the importance of authorities implementing systems that effectively govern the flow of vehicles entering and leaving rest areas.
"The safety and security of people are of chief importance during the Eid al-Fitr homecoming period," he stressed.
On March 1, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono confirmed that the government had decided to provide more affordable toll road fees and flight tickets for the homecoming season.
"There is a 20 percent discount on tolls for several toll road routes in Indonesia. This is also an effort to lessen the cost of land travel for the public," he remarked in a press conference at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten.
He also stated that with the government covering six percent of the value-added tax on airfare and lowering aviation fuel prices at several airports, travelers could benefit from a discount of up to 14 percent on domestic flights.
